An ending is sad, always.
Not just because a life ends, or something that causes a loss.
We cry in joy at creation because we know that entropy will eventually destroy it, so we cry while we are happy at the new life.
A story's end is no less different.
When a writer finishes those last lines of a long story, or on a poem, they are almost reluctant. Its like killing the lives of the characters, the feelings in the words. It's hard to kill something you put so much time into. So much life.
As a reader, I cry at the end of a book sometimes because I know that there's no going back. I absorb the stories, the glimpses into other's imaginations. But endings are sad because for those adventurers there will be no more adventures.

But each ending is a beginning. As is so with artists. We create. In our creations we are able to see entropy around us.

Late night philosophic writing. Yey me.

This is very true, but the story never really dies, it will always be with you. You can bring life back into the world you love so much, bring breath to the characters, and a heartbeat to the world once more.
